Trowbridge Falls is a long set of cascades where the Current River runs over rock ledges on the northeast edge of Thunder Bay. A footbridge crosses the river, with stairs at both ends leading down to the water, so you can walk upstream along the cascades. Reviewers describe it as one of the city's best green spaces.
The park has a playground and grassy areas near the parking lot, and the City of Thunder Bay runs a campground here. One recent camper had a great stay with friends but found the showers could be cleaner. Visiting the falls and trails is free.
The trails are the main attraction for many: an extensive network on both sides of the river, from easy to difficult, links to the Cascades Conservation Area and Centennial Park. Mountain bikers use them heavily, and one family covered 18 km in a day. The Current River is a well-known coldwater fishery, with brook trout, walleye and pike in its pools; bring an Ontario licence.
Rocks near the water are covered in algae and very slippery. The intersecting trails can be confusing, so carry a map or GPS. One older review mentioned litter and dog waste on the trails.
