Shannon Falls tumbles 335 metres down granite cliffs right beside Highway 99, making it the third-highest waterfall in British Columbia. From the base the falls are loud and the spray cool, and reviewers across the board rate it as one of the best stops on the Sea to Sky Highway.
It's easy to visit. A short walking trail of a few minutes follows Shannon Creek through forest to two viewing platforms. The park is free, with flush toilets, a small concession, plenty of picnic tables and a grassy field. When the main lot is full there's more parking across the road.
Kids enjoy scrambling on the boulders near the creek, and families picnic here. A longer hike climbs to an upper viewpoint, and trails link to the neighbouring Stawamus Chief park. Climbers use routes in the park, and the Sea to Sky Gondola is next door.
BC Parks warns against swimming or wading, and rocks and wooden walkways near the water are slippery, especially in winter when ice can fall. Heavy rain turns the creek dangerous. It gets busy in summer, so arrive early.
