The Sentier de la Forêt Marine, run by the Musée maritime de Charlevoix, climbs about 4 km along the Rivière des Boudreault from the museum grounds up to La Seigneurie. Reviewers describe a string of streams, waterfalls, wooden footbridges and viewpoints. The canyon lookout is a highlight, and there are wide views over the St. Lawrence River.
The trail is moderately difficult. Much of the steeper lower half is stairs, which make for a good workout but keep the footing simple and the descent less slippery. Recent visitors found it in excellent shape and well signed, with only the last stretch near the top a little less obvious. One self-described out-of-shape hiker did about half of it with plenty of breaks, and another with a fear of heights managed the small bridges.
There's parking at both ends, about an eight-minute drive apart, so two cars allow a one-way hike. Allow three to four hours for the full return trip. You buy trail tickets inside the museum across from the lower trailhead, where there are also washrooms. Leashed dogs have been welcome.
Spring melt and heavy rain make the falls especially lively, but there can still be ice on the upper section early in the season. Bring water and snacks. We couldn't confirm whether fishing is allowed on this stretch of river.
