This highway lookout sits just west of the Mazukama Falls trailhead, about 20 km east of Nipigon, with Lake Superior's Nipigon Bay spread out below. A local who lives nearby says the view is never the same twice, and it's the first big look at the lake for many drivers heading east from Thunder Bay.
The lot is large and right off the highway, which makes it an easy place for a snack, a stretch or a quick photo. There are bear-proof garbage cans, which visitors are asked to use, but no washrooms. One traveller in an RV stayed overnight and joked that the only issue was a slightly unlevel spot.
Nipigon Bay is open to angling with an Ontario licence, but there's no safe path to the water here. One reviewer notes that getting a clear view means scrambling down a steep embankment to the rocky shore, which isn't recommended. The Mazukama Falls trail is a short drive away for a proper hike.
The main complaint is that trees and brush along the embankment block much of the lake in spring and summer; the view opens up more once the leaves are down.
