Revelstoke Lookout is the first of the viewpoints on the Meadows in the Sky Parkway, about 5 km up from the bottom. It looks down over the town of Revelstoke and the Columbia River valley, with mountains rising beyond. Reviewers call the view stunning, and one family stopped here for a homemade breakfast.
The parkway climbs 26 km through cedar, hemlock and fir forest to subalpine meadows near the summit, with more pull-offs and picnic spots on the way. Beyond this lookout the views turn from the town to the surrounding peaks. Parks Canada notes a 1 km walk from Balsam Lake parking to the summit.
The road is popular with cyclists, and one rode up in spring before the road opened to cars. Parks Canada doesn't allow RVs, trailers or vehicles over 7.9 m on the parkway, and dogs aren't permitted above the Columbia Viewpoint at 12 km. Shuttle operators run to the top.
One reviewer warns that trees have grown in front of part of the view, so it isn't quite as open as in older photos. The full parkway opens only in summer, and in late fall access may stop partway, so check Parks Canada's hours page. A national park pass is required.
