Parc de la Rivière-du-Moulin follows the Rivière du Moulin through the east side of Chicoutimi. It has rapids, a clifftop view and three waterfalls: the Chute des Sables, Chute à l'Équerre and Chute du Voile de la Mariée. Reviewers are surprised to find this much wild scenery inside a city.
More than 35 km of marked trails run along both banks. Some are paved or easy gravel and suit families, beginners and people in regular shoes. Others follow the river more closely and call for proper hiking shoes. One visitor saw three waterfalls in short order, and another ran out of time and planned to come back the next day.
There's a lot for kids: separate play areas for younger and older children, a big sand area, clean toilets and helpful staff at the welcome pavilion. Wading anglers can fish for trout with a valid licence, and there's kayaking and mountain biking in summer, plus cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter. Leashed dogs are welcome.
Reviewers have little to complain about. The main thing is to match your footwear to the trail you choose, and to allow more time than you think if you want to see the whole park.
