Overhanging Point is a huge scooped-out bowl in the limestone cliffs above Georgian Bay, a short way along the Bruce Trail from the Grotto. From the top you look down a hole in the rock to the water and out over the bay, and reviewers say it's quieter and higher than most of the park's viewpoints.
It's roughly 30 minutes one way from the Grotto or Boulder Beach. The route crosses a rocky beach where it's easy to roll an ankle, then climbs over the cliffs, passing above a swimming cave on the way. Sturdy shoes are a must. Walk a few minutes further for a good angle to photograph people on the point.
Most visitors combine it with the Grotto and Indian Head Cove, and it works in winter too. There's no water access from the point itself. Bugs can be bad in summer, so bring repellent.
Getting in takes planning. Parks Canada requires a reservation for the Cyprus Lake day-use parking from spring through fall, in time slots, and there's no access when it's booked up. Stay back from the cliff edges and the hole in the rock.
