The Narrows Peninsula Trail loops around a point on Waskesiu Lake, about 22 km along Kingsmere Road from the townsite. Hikers describe a mix of balsam fir and jack pine forest, big beds of ostrich fern that peak in early summer, and a steady run of lookouts over the water. The route passes near the site of an 1880s trading post.
It's about an hour for most people. Reviewers call it well maintained and not especially hard, but the hill at the beginning and end is steep enough that one hiker wouldn't suggest it for anyone with mobility challenges. A boardwalk leads to a small beach, and there are a few spots to rest or take a dip. The Narrows campground is close by.
Waskesiu Lake is open to angling with a Prince Albert National Park fishing permit, and it's the only lake in the park open for ice fishing in winter. Autumn gets strong recommendations for colour and quiet; one October hiker had the trail to themselves and saw a fox, a bobcat and an elk.
Bears are active here. A hiker met two black bears on the trail in August 2026, so carry bear spray, make noise and keep dogs leashed.
