Munson Mountain is the hill above Penticton that carries the giant white PENTICTON letters. From the top you get a full circle of views: downtown, Okanagan Lake, the surrounding mountains and the vineyards. Visitors are consistently delighted, and several call it the best sunset spot in town.
It barely counts as a hike. The main path from the parking lot is paved and leads up to a sheltered viewing area, and most people reach the top in a few minutes. There's also a longer, gentler route with benches along the way. The only tricky part is coming down loose gravel sections, so watch your footing.
The access road off Munson Avenue is narrow for the last stretch, and the lot holds about 16 cars. Weekday mornings and evenings are quiet; one couple had it to themselves at sunset. Keep an eye out for quail in the brush.
