Kìwekì Point, long known as Nepean Point, is the high bluff behind the National Gallery of Canada. From the top you look straight across to Parliament Hill, the Alexandra Bridge, the Ottawa River and the Gatineau waterfront, with the Gatineau Hills behind. Visitors have been coming up here for the sunset for years, and it's one of the classic views of the capital.
The National Capital Commission rebuilt the site and reopened it in May 2025. It now has two levels of viewing areas, accessible paths from two entrances, a shelter, monuments including the Samuel de Champlain statue, and a footbridge linking it to Major's Hill Park. Most of the reviews date from before the rebuild, but the view they praise is the same.
It's an easy walk from downtown, the ByWard Market and the museums along Sussex Drive. Paid parking is at the National Gallery and on Pioneer Road, and washrooms are at Major's Hill Park and the Gallery. Leashed dogs are welcome, and cyclists need to walk their bikes. It can be windy and cool on the bluff, so bring a layer.
