Isle Lake
A picturesque cabin and boating lake west of Edmonton with islands, bays and sunsets. Pike fishing can be very good, but harvest limits are tight and summer algae blooms are common.

Isle Lake lies just north of Highway 16, about 80 km west of Edmonton, and its islands and wooded shoreline make it one of the prettier lakes in the area. Visitors mention calm evenings, good sunsets and lots of birdlife. Much of the shore is cabins and lots, and the Silver Sands area has the main public access.
The lake is open to angling under Alberta's sportfishing regulations, which list northern pike, walleye, yellow perch and burbot. Harvest limits are tight and some species must be released, so check the current regulations. Anglers who know the lake report catching plenty of pike, sometimes near the edges of the algae, and it's fished through the ice in winter.
There's a boat launch and picnic area, and people use the lake for waterskiing, tubing, kayaking and evening boat rides. It's best seen from the water: there are few places to fish from shore, and a visitor who came to picnic found most of the shoreline private.
Water quality is the main caveat. Blue-green algae blooms are common in summer, the east end is shallow and weedy, and several reviewers wouldn't swim near shore. Check for health advisories before you go, and don't expect a beach day.
