Fletcher Falls drops through a mossy grotto just above the west shore of Kootenay Lake, about 9 km south of Kaslo. Reviewers rate it very highly: they mention the falls, a long sandy beach, and views across the lake to the mountains on the east shore.
From the small parking area off the highway it's a 10 to 15 minute walk down. It's easy going on the way in and a steady climb back up. One visitor did it in sandals, which works but isn't ideal. At the bottom there are picnic tables, fire pits and an outhouse, and reviewers found the site clean.
Most people come for a picnic and a swim, but there are four first-come, first-served walk-in campsites by the lake that are also used by paddlers and cartop boaters. Kootenay Lake is open to angling under BC's Kootenay regulations, with rules that vary by part of the lake. A winter visitor found it just as striking, with good birdwatching, but warned about ice on the path.
The turnoff isn't well marked from the highway, so watch for it just south of the Fletcher Creek bridge. The steep path makes hauling camping gear awkward, and the few sites fill on weekends.
