A popular cliff-top lookout near Calabogie with wide views over the forests and lakes of the Madawaska Highlands. About 3 km return with a steep, rooty start and a small paid parking lot.
Eagle's Nest Lookout sits on a rock cliff above the Calabogie Highlands, looking out over forest and lakes that roll away in every direction. Most hikers agree the view makes the effort worthwhile, and it's at its most dramatic in fall colour. One visitor found the top a little underwhelming, but that's a minority view.
The trail is roughly 3 km round trip. It starts with a steep climb and has plenty of rocks and roots, so good footwear matters. Several people call it easy to moderate depending on conditions, and one group hiked up the trail and came down the ATV road to make a loop. The trail is well marked, though one hiker admits getting lost after not checking the map.
Parking is in a dedicated lot and costs about $5 a day, paid electronically, and you cross the road to reach the trailhead. It gets busy on fall weekends, so going early is wise. People hike it in all seasons, including in snow.
