Cherry Creek Falls is a small East Kootenay regional park off the Ta Ta Lost Dog Forest Service Road, a short drive from Kimberley. It's more of a long slide or set of rapids than a big plunge. Visitors like the mossy rock, the clear water and the quiet compared with busier waterfalls in the area.
From the small lot, which holds about 8 to 10 vehicles, it's roughly a 200 m walk past a couple of picnic tables and a fire pit. A narrow but well-kept wooden staircase goes down to the base, where there's a small pool. An optional 1.3 km loop trail adds a bit more walking.
Families like it because the walk is so short. One visitor's kids spent their time splashing in the creek above the falls, and another mentioned a pool where you can dip your feet or wade in at your own risk. It's a peaceful spot to sit and listen to the water. The creek falls under BC's Kootenay stream rules if you want to fish, including a spring closure.
The drive in is the catch. The last kilometre or so is rough gravel, and one reviewer warned to go very slowly. It was also partly snowy on an early spring visit. The stairs rule out wheelchairs, though one visitor thought someone with a walker might manage with help.
