A newer, open campground in Sandbanks Provincial Park, Ontario, with very large, level sites, paved roads and a short walk to the Dunes beach. Great for big rigs and stargazing, but there's little shade.
West Lake Campground is one of the newer campgrounds at Sandbanks Provincial Park. The sites are open rather than wooded, which means big skies for sunsets and stars, fewer bugs and a steady breeze, but not much shade.
Sites are very generously sized, with some big enough for several trailers, and many are level with a U-shaped pull-through, so setup is easy for any size of rig. Each has a gravel pad, grass, a picnic table and a fire pit. Roads are paved, washrooms and showers are well placed and clean with hot water, and the water fill and dump stations are tidy.
The Dunes beach is a 5 to 10 minute walk, with soft sand and clean water. Families find it a comfortable, easy campground, and it is pretty in the fall when the leaves turn.
Shade is the main drawback, so bring a shelter and position your rig with the sun in mind. One camper suggests booking a site on the outer edge facing the field. The water can be too cold for swimming outside summer.
