Thessalon Lakeside Park Campground sits just off Highway 17, across the street from a sandy, west-facing beach on the north shore of Lake Huron. The sunsets get mentioned often, and several guests say the beach is rarely crowded. The water is warm, with some rocky patches near shore that turn sandy further out.
It's a mix of seasonal and overnight sites, many with full hookups and some with lake views. Reviewers praise the clean, recently renovated washrooms and showers, the well-kept grounds and fair prices. Firewood bought at the gatehouse is delivered to your site, and there's Wi-Fi. The gatehouse isn't always staffed, but late arrivals find their site on a board and can reach an attendant by intercom or pay on the way out.
It suits travellers crossing northern Ontario who want an easy overnight stop, as well as anyone looking for a few beach days. There's grass for dogs and big open fields nearby, and the town itself has a small-town feel. One camper was surprised how little highway noise reached the park.
