Skihist Provincial Park sits on a hill above the Trans-Canada Highway near Lytton, looking over the Thompson River canyon. Visitors love the mountain and canyon views, and some sites sit near the edge overlooking the river. Ponderosa pines give the place a warm, dry-country feel.
Campers describe the campground as clean and well maintained, with spacious sites and flush toilets. The hosts are friendly and helpful. One recent visitor paid about $23 a night in cash, with firewood sold separately, and there are plenty of first-come, first-served sites; even on a May long weekend there was space.
It works well as a stop along the highway or a base for hiking in the canyon area, and there are trails on site. The rest area on the river side of the highway also has flush toilets and running water for travellers passing through.
Wind is the most common complaint, especially in spring and early summer, and days can be very hot. Trains run along the far side of the river and some highway sound carries, though most campers found it minor. One guest wished the washroom had a light, so bring a headlamp.
