A tidy campground by the Serpent River on Highway 17 in Ontario's North Shore, with big pull-through sites, clean free showers, a pool, cabins and kayak rentals. Handy for overnight RV stops.
Serpent River Campground sits beside the river of the same name, just off Highway 17, with big mature trees throughout. Travellers describe it as pleasant and practical, with lovely sunsets and even the odd glimpse of northern lights. Highway traffic is close, but several guests said it didn't keep them awake.
The sites are the standout for RVers: very large pull-throughs that fit big rigs, with power and water, plus a convenient dump station. There are also unserviced and tent sites, a riverside tenting area and small cabins. Washrooms, free hot showers and the laundry are all described as very clean, and there are drinking-water taps. Staff are repeatedly called kind and accommodating, including extending stays at short notice and calling ahead about late arrivals.
Families have a playground and a pool in season, and there's a store, a pavilion that hosts events on holidays, kayak and canoe rentals and a boat launch a short walk away. A restaurant across the highway gets a good word.
A few caveats. The pool isn't open early in the season. One cyclist felt $60 was steep for a tent site, and mosquitoes come out after sunset. One visitor found the washrooms weren't wheelchair-accessible. One RV couple who arrived after the office closed had a hostile early-morning encounter with staff, so if you'll be late, call ahead as others did.
