Sandcut Wilderness Campground is a newer property in the forest above Sandcut Beach on the southwest coast of Vancouver Island. Every review so far is five stars, and campers keep coming back to the same points: sites are unusually private, surrounded by mature trees and plants, and it's quiet enough to hear birds and wind in the trees, with only faint highway noise.
The owner and hosts get warm praise for being welcoming, helpful and knowledgeable about the area, handing out a paper map and suggestions at check-in. The outhouse-style washrooms are described as pristine, with motion-activated solar lighting. There's Wi-Fi, firewood for sale, and a small office stocked with ice, snacks and forgotten essentials. Showers were described as coming soon by recent guests.
Trails run in every direction, some lit by solar lights at night, and one leads down to Sandcut Beach, where waterfalls pour onto the shore. Families with babies and dogs, couples and larger groups have all enjoyed it, and a group site comfortably held a 13-person gathering.
This is off-grid camping, so expect the basics rather than hookups. Recent visitors noted the on-site water is not potable, so bring drinking water. The beach trail is a fair trek on a rustic path, and some guests chose to drive down after walking it once. Bugs were light, mostly appearing after sunset.
