Penn Lake Park and Campground is a municipal RV and tent campground on the edge of Marathon, far enough from the highway and town to be very quiet. Sites look out over a small lake, and one visitor found the water warm and pleasant.

There are pull-through and back-in sites with fire pits, picnic tables on concrete pads, fresh water and two washroom buildings with decent hot showers that are kept stocked. Staff are described as professional and friendly, and it's about a mile to a good grocery store.
It works well as an overnight stop on the long drive to or from Thunder Bay, and return visitors use it for that. Sites are fairly level.
The recurring warning is mosquitoes. Several summer visitors say they were the worst they've seen, especially at dawn, so bring repellent, long loose clothing and a head net. Hookups can be a long way from the pad, so carry a long extension cord and hose. There's no Wi-Fi.
