A popular Ontario provincial park south of the French River with many small lakes, sandy beaches, jumping rocks and easy trails. Clean facilities, though bears and raccoons are regular visitors.
Grundy Lake Provincial Park is made up of several campgrounds spread around a cluster of lakes, and visitors say there's plenty to keep a family busy for a weekend or a full week. Campsites are close to the water and many are surrounded by trees, which gives them some privacy. On clear nights, one camper could see the Milky Way.
Most reviewers found the park clean and well run. Washrooms are cleaned regularly and the showers get particular praise for being warm and updated. Staff at the gate and wardens on patrol are called friendly, and one family saw a noisy-camper problem handled quickly. There's a store just across from the entrance with supplies, ice cream, gas and canoe and kayak rentals.
Swimming, paddling and short hikes are the main activities. The jumping rocks and sliding rocks are a big hit with kids, the beaches are small and calm, and Gut Lake is a favourite for both paddling and its 2.5 km trail. Swan Lake Trail is another easy option, and one family enjoyed the learn-to-fish program. French River Provincial Park is close by for a day trip.
Some things to be ready for. Bears and raccoons come through campsites, so keep food packed away. One camper found several washrooms and showers closed during a busy stretch, and another found the fire pits dug so deep that cooking was awkward. A few sites near the water can see the highway, and trails can be very muddy after rain.
