Gas City Campground sits in the coulees near the river in Medicine Hat, and visitors keep saying you'd never know you were in the city. Reviewers describe lush lawns, mature shade trees, flower beds and trimmed grounds, with large, level, well-spaced sites. Sunsets from the pull-throughs get special mention.
Staff get consistent praise for being friendly and helpful. During a rare summer storm, they went site to site telling guests where to shelter, then cleaned up afterwards. Washrooms, showers and laundry are described as very clean, though one camper wished the showers were hotter and another found a bathroom a bit grungy. There are full-hookup sites, fire pits and picnic tables, decent Wi-Fi and a small shop selling smokies, sausages and firewood. Two comfortable cabins, each with three double beds, a fridge and a half bath, are hard to get because there are only two.
Dog owners love the large fenced off-leash park across the way, and there's a paved bike path, a kids' bike park and trails in the coulees behind. Mini golf with a camper discount, bowling and shopping are just up the road. Some RVers stop on their way south every year, and others have stayed for weeks.
There are few complaints. One camper found some highway noise, and another was bothered by classic cars cruising through the grounds. Firewood is a little pricey. Book early if you want one of the cabins.
