Trails are well maintained, and there are several to choose from depending on how far you want to go. The Grotto trail involves some moderate hiking over rock, but visitors say the payoff is worth it. Sunrises and sunsets are best found by walking out to different viewpoints. The area also draws scuba divers, who can swim through underwater caves.
Reservations are the big practical issue. You need one to enter the park even for day use, and they're competitive, especially on weekends and long weekends. Day-use slots give you about four hours, which several people found barely enough, so many recommend camping overnight to see it properly. Early summer and early September are mentioned as less crowded times.
The campground has a low tolerance for noise, so it isn't suited to party groups. Winter camping is also possible: one visitor loved the snowy trails and found the lot plowed, but the campsites are a fair walk from the winter parking.
