Beaver Lake Provincial Recreation Area sits a few minutes from Lac La Biche, and the lake is its strongest point. Reviewers describe the water as clean and fairly warm for Alberta, good for swimming, kayaking, boating and fishing. The beach is small but usable.
Tent campers get the best of it, with many spacious sites, and the group area has a cooking shelter and a private path to the beach. Powered and full-hookup sites are much closer together and one camper likened them to a parking lot, so photos can be deceiving. There are flush toilets, pit toilets and a shower house with free hot showers. The store gets praise for its friendly staff and sells firewood and ice cream, and there are areas where you can gather and chop your own wood.
It works for families, with a fairly new playground, and for groups booking neighbouring sites. Lac La Biche is less than 10 minutes away for bigger shopping.
Upkeep is a recurring issue. A recent visitor found washrooms out of toilet paper and soap, with broken locks and dirty floors. The campground is beside a highway and a firefighting base, so expect helicopter traffic, and one camper found no RV water-fill or dump station. Park rangers patrol often, which one reviewer found intrusive.
